A Simple Supplication…

So high [above all] is Allah , the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (Surat Taha 20:114)

“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

An easy prayer…

Short and sweet.

I ask you my Rubb,

To make me more knowledgeable,

Smart,

Savvy,

And successful.

No, No you say…

I ask you my Rubb,

To make me more Humble,

Happy,

And helpful.

“Knowledge of what?”

You ask.

The skies,

And the sea.

The tears in her eyes.

Biology, Ecology,

Sociology, Psychology?

Knowledge of Deen?

Or of dunya?

For what knowledge,

Do you greed?

What will bring a smile,

To your sorry soul,

You are but what you know.

But these are,

His Words,

His counsel.

To His most beloved

Creation.

Who was in a hurry to learn,

His Book.

So he could listen,

And obey.

And in the long nights,

Recite.

Till his feet ached,

And the whole earth,

Dissolved,

In his tears.

He did what was asked,

Of him.

With every fiber of his being,

He loved those Words,

And he lived them.

Till his words,

His smile,

His very silence,

Became almost as exquisite

As the Book,

He so cherished.

Then he spoke…

And we fell in love with him.

And to love him,

Is to love the one,

Who sent him.

So the next time you ask,

“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

Tremble.

For you ask,

What Rasulallah asked.

Are you willing to do,

What Rasulallah did?
